How I Help Him With His Homework While I Make Dinner

How I Help Him With His Homework While I Make Dinner

I work first shift and my husband works second shift. I know it sounds rough, and it is, but that’s what we have to do to keep the bills paid right now. Sometimes I feel like we just share a space. It can be really hard, but the worst part is that the children really don’t have the right amount of exposure to him.

Recently I realized just how much it seems like I live like a single woman. My twin daughters both needed help with their math work, and I had to make dinner. What could I do? I couldn’t turn my back on them so that I could make chicken and dumplings, so I ordered a pizza and sat down with them at the table to work.

Hours later we were making very little progress. It turns out that I didn’t remember as much about math as I thought I did. We called it a night after we took a break to eat and worked for another hour. The work was done, but we weren’t sure how well we did.

It turned out alright, but the next night brought more homework and new challenges for the girls. I could see where this was going, but I just could not afford to buy dinner every night. There had to be a way for this work to be sped along. The girls are very bright, I’m just not the best at math myself and I can’t help as efficiently as someone that knows the work can.

I needed to find another way to help, and the girls could not wait up for their father to get home. That night I bought burgers, but I went to the computer to find some help this time. We spent another couple of hours working on finding resources for high school math. We came up with lots of information, but the best lead that we had was TransWebTutors.com.

At TransWebTutors.com we read about how they had tutors available around the clock. They were live and dealt with economics, algebra, physics, chemistry, test prep, and more. The tutors all had several hundred hours of experience as online tutors, and were trained to deal with students just like my girls.

I was ready to try them out, so I signed up. My daughters were getting live help that night, and completed their homework before we did the night before. That was just amazing to me. What was even better was that they said that they understood the work that they did, and that they felt confident in the answers that they had come up with.

I felt like I was getting a deal, since both of my daughters had the same math class. They were sharing their online tutoring and were learning how to solve complex equations with someone that knew what they were doing. For the next week I just had the girls navigate their way to TransWebTutors.com when their work was giving them issues. The study time amounted to a fraction of the time that it took for us to stumble through their books, and the applications were sticking with them.

When I told my husband that the girls were using a tutor, he was first worried about the price. When he found out that the service was online and was provided either live or via email, he was relieved. They only had to use a tutor when they needed help, and there were different options for them depending on the level of attention they needed.

I could not be more thankful for the help that we have found through them, and I can see that we will be keeping them as our secret weapon throughout the high school years. I can be a mom again, and they can be kids. When we are not spending hours on trying to decipher their homework, and getting lost in the process, we are all feeling a whole lot smarter.
