Are School Homework Assignments Necessary, Should Homework Be Banned

Many schools will provide a shopping list of the essential items your child will need during the next term time – you can always ring the school if you haven’t received one for the upcoming term. Meantime we’ve compiled a list of back to school things that will help you get started.

The School Uniform

Probably the most important of all school essentials, if only to prevent your child from standing out in the playground as being the odd one out. Check with the school for the exact school uniform requirements your child will need.

You can get some real bargains on school uniforms in the summer holidays thanks to supermarket price wars. Always check the school’s uniform policy for exact requirements, but list below should cover what most children will need:

Stationery and Books

A copy of the English Dictionary is always handy. Check out sites like Amazon and ebay you can often pick up school books cheaply on such sites.

School stationery can be picked up at reasonable prices on the high street, but don’t automatically go for the nearest specialist stationers, bargains can be found in most supermarkets or independent discount shops.Shop around online to find the cheapest retailers.

Everyday School Essentials

A good quality lunchbox if taking packed lunches or make sure child has corrected amount for dinner money

Check how child is to get to school, do they qualify for a travel pass, are they riding to school, if so is their bike safe with good tyres, brakes etc., matbe they are within walking distance. Whether riding or walking to school do they have waterpoof coats for bad weather days?
Prepare everything the night before such as:-

Lunchbox or Diner money
Bus pass
Bus fare if needed
Tissues/Clean handkerchief
Towel
Shower gel.

to avoid extra stress in the morning

Computing and technology

Although a Laptop is not an essential item for School work it can be a great help with research and essay writing.
Then there is the need of a printer to print off anything done on the laptop.
If these are affordable they can be valuable for children with exams coming up at school.
Many households have a computer and printer of one sort or another these days which are available to all members of the family, these along with a Broadband connection can be very helpful.
Another piece of technology that would be good for your child to have is a mobile phone so that they are able to get in touch easily if needed, it is always a good idea to check your child’s school’s policy on mobile phone to see if they are allowed. A pay as you go model will prevent unexpected bills.
